The cartoon by Sean Delonas

I’m sure that everyone is aware of the picture drawn by Mr. Sean Delonas. He decided to draw an image of a monkey being shot by two white police officers, then the capture reads; "Now they will have to find someone else to write the stimulus bill." Everyone is going haywire, and arguing whether or not the picture represents a racial depiction of our wonderful Barack Obama.
Here are the facts are, the New York Times first stated that the picture was an illustration of the monkey that had attacked the woman the other day. But since then, they changed their statement, as they posted the following editorial, which stated that the illustration It was meant to mock an ineptly written federal stimulus bill. They go on to say that they apologize to those who were offended, because it was simply a cartoon, and should be seen that way.
Now to those of us who have been following this story, we have to look at both sides of this. Now when I first saw the image, it was on WGN news, as they were taking votes on whether or not the image was a racial depiction. Now when they showed the image, they did not mention the quote, nor did they really try to expose it. So I instantly thought that people had been over exaggerating. Until I actually saw the image for myself.
Anyone who believes that this illustration isn’t mocking our new president Barack Obama is not looking at the same image. I feel as though there has been a lot of controversy every since our first black president was elected into office. For us to allow the New York Times to get away with this act of ignorance will mean that we are becoming an un-patriotic nation. It is also a smack in the face, for the New York Times to apologize, but continue to take the side of the illustration. How dare they try to justify this?

  1. I like this piece. The way they go about how insignificant our president is, should be considered an outrage. Other than that, NICE JOB!!!

  2. The article started off very smooth. The opening paragraph, made me want to continue reading the article. The facts are clearly stated and it was easy to follow. You can also clearly see which side the writer chose. Overall the article was very good... However, it could have been longer. She could have went deeper into the facts and give more sides of the story.
