A LETTER TO MY PEOPLE
November 4, 2008 was not only a historical event for the nation, but specifically for African Americans. Barack Obama was announced president elect for the United States of America. This tremendous event should have changed the mindset of every child born of African decent. As a child, we were told by our mothers and fathers that we could be anything if we put our minds to it. Never once did we dream of becoming president. Always assuming that the accomplishment would be to far-fetched to achieve. We were wrong. Barack has showed us that change is possible and we should always strive to be the best that we can. We should have wanted to pick up our heads and work toward a brighter and more successful future; instead, we are still destroying our lives a day at a time.
November 4, 2008, was a wake up call. Every hustler, should have woke up and realized that the streets, are not going to get you anywhere in life. The drugs and violence amongst each other is not worth the lives that are being sacrificed daily. Every deadbeat father should have realized that in order for their child to be fully equipped for the future, they need that father-figure in their lives. For every adolescent who feels like school is not for them or that their future will not be as successful as others, YOU CAN DO ANYTHING. Instead, we continued to follow suit of the next and take the opportunity for a new world for granted.
November 4, 2008, we should have opened are eyes and made our futures more clear. We should have written out our goals and future endeavors and grasp hold of every opportunity available to us. We should have realized that nothing is impossible. Barack Obama opened many doors and gave us the key to a brighter future. My people, take this as a lesson to do better, to be better. CHANGE HAS COME... DON'T GET LEFT BEHIND
