Being independent doesn’t have an age limit on it. You can be an independent person (teenager) and still live at home with your parents. Being an independent teenager is one who is responsible, focus, and accountable for the actions. Someone has to be able to trust you and count on you to take care of something. Parents don’t believe that you are independent until you move out their house or leave for college. They believe that you have to be at least eighteen of age to even think you are an independent person. The word independent can mean numerous of things: 1. a person can be free from the influence, guidance, or control of another or others; self-reliant, meaning they can have an independent mind. 2. Not relying on others for support, care, or funds; self-supporting.
Some parents want their child to have an independent mind, but by having an independent mind doesn’t automatically makes you a person that is independent. Some teens believe that’s the case and they can just do what ever they want. This makes it worse for the ones that are independent and know how to handle their self and independence. Being able to have the mind set that their parents gave them to be an independent person can take them along way in this society today. Teens need to know that the characteristics of an independent person are one who is responsible, dependable, and is capable of being able to stand on their on two feet.
Young (teen) adults know that their independence starts off in college or graduating from high school. Entering that adult hood or as the people like to say the “real world”. Parents try to instill in their children the value of saving your money, making good decisions that will affect their life, and just being a responsible young individual. Some teenagers believe that their so grown that they take their independence and change it to I don’t need anyone. Entering your freshmen year in college will be tough and scary. You will need your parents help or someone you trust and look up to help you along the way. So teens should remember that, our so call independence can be easily taken away and destroyed by the one brought us here and gave us this great life that we have.
